According to the latest statistics provided by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange,in the first half of 2018, the total trade of China’s IPR royalties reached 22.005 billion US dollars, up 52.5%. Export and import volume both witnessed increase, with export growth outperforming that of import.
In the first half of this year, China’s deficit in IPR royalties reached 16.531 billion US dollars, an increase of 5.585 billion US dollars as compared to the same period of 2017 (5.585 billion US dollars more than that of the same period of 2017). The deficit mainly stemmed from against Germany, Japan and US in respect of IPR use, with the deficit volumes of $ 3.127 billion, $2.932 billion and $2.46 billion respectively and accounting for 51.5% of the total deficit.
Generally speaking, the import dominates IPR trade in Chinaa is mainly on import, with the IPR export accounting for less than 15% of total trade. The widening IPR deficit reflects that China’s technical innovation and IPR level are yet to be improved. Experts advise that the relevant departments should take effective measures to offer positive guidance, assist the market players in improving their innovation level and quality and increase the export of IPR-intensive products, so as to decrease the deficit and further enhance the competitiveness of China in IPR trade.
